Designing the first iteration of Crypto.com’s offering from scratch — a cryptocurrency app for buying, investing in, exchanging, and spending with the companion Visa card.
Originally called Monaco, Crypto.com is a fin-tech startup with a single goal: to bring the benefits of cryptocurrency into every wallet. A key problem they looked to solve was to make it easier for users to spend their crypto. To address this, as part of the experience, Crypto.com would provide each user with a companion Visa card to use with the app.
They originally came to MetaLab in 2017 to help them design the first version of their mobile app and be their design partner through to launch, with the work also encompassing product branding and the marketing site as well.

Getting to work
Due to the client being in Hong Kong, we started the project by running a remote kickoff, with activities focused on gathering the necessary inputs. Along with insights gathered from competitive analysis, stakeholder and user interviews, our team set out on designing the app from the ground up.
Starting with the wallet and spending, we also designed features such as budgets, watchlist, auto-invest, a university space, and much more. After months of collaboration, it was an incredibly fulfilling moment to be there for the successful launch of the Crypto.com mobile app and marketing site. It’s been a great partnership and we look forward what’s next for them.
